Short intro
Embrace the Herd is the sole studio album by English band The Gist, released in 1982 by record label Rough Trade. Far Concern. Love At First Sight. Fretting Away. Public Girl. Clean Bridges. Embrace The Herd. Iambic Pentameter. Carnival Headache. Concrete Slopes. The Long Run. Dark Shots. Produced and engineered by Phil Legg. Stuart Moxham, vocals, arrangements and instruments 1-5, 7-12. Phil Moxham, bass guitar 2,5,9. Dave Dearnaley, electric guitar 2,4,5, slide guitar 5. The Gist lasted for only one album, Embrace the Herd, which Moxham has often dismissed as misguided and negatively influenced by clinical depression, excessive indulgence in marijuana, and no idea of where to go next. None of his unkind words have kept fans of early twee and the early, anything-goes days of post-punk from declaring it a lost classic. Course, neither camp is being objective about it and the actual album ends up firmly between the two, just as incoherent and interesting as you've heard. First up we have an instrumental that sounds like the theme tune to an upbeat Schools programme, followed by the classic mellow anthem, and Moxham's most successful song, Love at First Sight, which luckily escaped being covered by one of those terrible Grunge stars who lauded his previous group. It was however featured in some shit american film, and was a hit on the continent after it was covered by an identikit french chanteuse. en référence à Embrace The Herd, LP, Album, RTD 6, ROUGH 25, Rough 25. This is not exactly a consistent album and rather than being offensively eclectic it's Stuart Moxham dabbling around with references towards easy listening, carribean and whatever styles without making any peculiar goal from it. Of course it's the all over DiY-pop-approach, drum machine, solid bass - already so overtly there with the Young Marbel Giants before - which makes the music so fragile, elegant, appealing and, um, post-modern. Embrace the Herd. The gist. Released 2007. Embrace the Herd Tracklist. Embrace The Herd is ranked 49,898th in the overall chart, 6,321st in the 1980s, and 573rd in the year 1983.
