Short intro

Aerial is a 2005 album by the English singer-songwriter and musician Kate Bush, released twelve years after her 1993 album The Red Shoes. It is her eighth album, and her only double album to date. Aerial is Bush's first double album, and was released after a twelve-year absence from the music industry during which Bush devoted her time to family and the raising of her son, Bertie. The anticipation leading up to the album's release was immense, with press articles devoted to Bush being printed months. Kate's first double album, Aerial, was released on 7 November 2005 and reached no. 3 in the UK album chart. As with 1985's Hounds Of Love, the album is split into two sections. The first disc, subtitled A Sea Of Honey and the second A Sky Of Honey. The album sold more than 90,000 copies in its first week of release and has now been certified as platinum by the British Phonographic Industry. UK music magazine Mojo named Aerial their 3rd best album of 2005 and the album recieved a BRIT Award nomination for Best British Album in 2006. Kate was also nominated for. Kate Bush - A Coral Room. Aerial' album cover. Eighth album by Kate Bush, released by EMI Records on 7 November 2005. It is Bush's first double album, and was released after a twelve year absence from the music industry during which Bush devoted her time to family and the raising of her son, Bertie. The cover features a waveform of a blackbird song superimposed over a glowing photograph. The album consists of the following tracks . Fierce Kate Bush fans who are expecting revelation in Aerial, her first new work since The Red Shoes in 1993, will no doubt scour lyrics, instrumental trills, and interludes until they find them. For everyone else, those who purchased much of Bush's earlier catalog because of its depth, quality, and vision, Aerial will sound exactly like what it is, a new Kate Bush record: full of her obsessions, lushly romantic paeans to things mundane and cosmic, and her ability to add dimension and transfer emotion though song. So what of Kate Bush Aerial amounts to 2005's biggest genuine comeback save, perhaps, Kraftwerk's Minimum-Maximum not just that, but it's one of the year's most anticipated releases. Kate's stock have never been higher - aside from The Futureheads taking Hounds Of Love into the Top 10 for a second time and stating Kate as a major influence, plenty of other artists have gone on record speaking of their love for her. People like Alison Goldfrapp and Bjork probably didn't surprise anyone when they said this, but what about Outkast's Big Boi He&a. Aerial is the eighth studio album by singer, songwriter and producer Kate Bush. Her first and only double album, it was released on 7 November 2005 after Bushs 12 year absence from the music industry. The album incorporates elements from the folk to the flamenco genres while spanning across 2 discs in a similar fashion to Bushs magnum opus Hounds of Love. The first, titled A Sea of Honey , carries individual tracks, all loosely connected by the theme of strong archetypes. Accompanying this, the second, is A Sky of Honey later An Endless Sky of Honey which houses a 9 track conceptual s. Aerial, a double album separated into chapters of A Sea of Honey and A Sky of Honey, is Bush's answer to a world outside expecting fireworks. That is, Aerial is no answer at all except to illuminate her love for her son, her life, and various distractions everything from Elvis, to the joy of washing clothes, to the digits in pi. Musically, this is reflected in a uniformly low-key backdrop of piano, pastel rhythm section, and, of course, her own lush palette of vocal textures. Initially, many of the songs seem muted, passive, dated- hardly reminiscent of Bush's previous adventures

Beautiful record, but absolutely the worst pressing in my collection. I've treated it with love, but it sounds like I've been using it to serve tacos.

Great sounding pressing, apart from Kates voice, that sound a bit sharp in places. Removing Rolf Harris' part in a an understandable decision. Who wants a complete asshole on its album.

what's up with "painter's link"?is that a completely different voice?

Yes, it now features her son, Bertie, as on "Before The Dawn". She has removed her (ex) friend Rolf Harris after he was convicted of sex offences :(
Risteacor
Risteacor
It was replaced with the live version from Before the Dawn to remove Rolf Harris' vocals (I assume due to his multiple convictions/subsequent jail time for decades of sexually assaulting minors).

OK, so the vinyl is quiet and the packaging (gatefold, booklet and sleeves) is fine, ...first rate in fact, but the remaster does sound different and I am not sure if it is better?!? Just different and not as comfortable to the ear. I'll need to do more listening and less comparing, as THAT detracts from the great music!

nice clean pressingi'd say it's missing instrument seperation, punch and some of the sizzleof the original but for the money a great buy and a no-brainer...get it

Disappointingly quiet pressing, also lacking in top end. Damn, I was so optimistic, too.

I might be saying something obvious, but have you tried cranking the volume? It's cut quiet, mmh-yes, but it's very dynamic for it and the pressing's good enough to withstand the gain boost necessary, and once you get there it opens up and top end is not lacking.

My copy has Disk 1 with the Side B label on both sides although the vinyl itself plays side 1 & side 2 correctly. Anyone else have this problem?

thanks for your feedback. FYI, I think the sound of this new release is awesome and my copy plays perfectly on all 4 sides - sorry yours doesn't. I've never had that on a new record. Can you send it back?

yes, me too and clicks and pops on side 1 as well

Bertie's voice is horrible. The feeling was removed in a sudden for 'An Architect's Dream' and 'The Painter's Link' songs. What a shame! Was the didgeridoo removed too? Against these policies!

If she cared that much she'd have wiped him from The Dreaming as well. Revisionist nonsense especially as Bertie's voice is indeed horrible. I'm sticking with my 2005 pressing.

well he did sexually assault 4 teenagers and kate wasn't too keen on having him on her reissue

I have to agree it was obviously necessary to make changes for the updated interpretations in the live shows but feel the original album should have been left as was. Revisionist history!P.s. Also agree about these changes spoiling these tracks for me.

So, I've now tried two different copies of this pressing and both has had the same issue: an incredible amount of clicks and pops on side 1 of vinyl 1. Anyone else have this problem?

No, not at all. In fact, my pressing stunningly quiet. Sorry you’re having issues.

Mine is flawless! Good pressing! No clicks and pops... Nice one!

Mine is flawless, but I did have this problem with the 50 Words For Snow reissue. I took the time to de-static the Aerial one before playing it, so it's possibly at least partially a static issue.

Thankfully, no. Mine is very quiet and pop free (like all of them from Remastered in Vinyl II & III - thank goodness!)

Unfortunately, yes. In my case the first side of each vinyl has a tremendous amaount of pops and clicks.

Excellent pressing, beautiful glossy artwork with accompanying booklet and subtle remastering; glad to see Rolf's vocal contribution erased too...

Bertie's voice erase the whole painting! These new 'versions' of both tracks are now awful! :|

Whitefang; his discography aside, his being convicted of multiple sex offenses is enough to warrant the change

I'm happy to report that this reissue comes with the same art/lyric booklet as the original 2005 pressing. I was afraid she wouldn't bother including it in the reissue!
