Favorite track: While We Have The Sun. aspera is the fourth studio album by the American singer-songwriter Mirah, released on March 10, 2009. Produced by Phil Elverum, it met with a largely positive reception from music critics. According to PopMatters about the album, The musical marriage of Mirah and Elvrum is one of those rare perfect meeting of the minds-Jay-Z and Kanye, Butch Vig and Kurt Cobain, Phil Spector and basically anyone who can sing. On her first solo recording since 2004, and fourth overall, Mirah has crafted an engaging work that's more diverse and textured than anything she's released before. Theres a lot of instrumentation and dynamics at work here, even to the point of sometimes overwhelming her delicate delivery. Mostly, though, her gorgeous, feathery voice is a tender match for the orchestra of violins, cellos, koras, and other sounds, and her fluttery, soft melodies make you want to lean in closer. Calling an album mature can be damning it with faint praise, but Mirah's luminous Aspera embodies the best qualities of that word. While it might be subtler and gentler than most of her previous work, it also feels like a summation of everything that came before it. Her 2009 album aspera peaked on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart at 46, while her 2011 collaborative album Thao Mirah peaked at 7. Background information. Phil Elverum produced or co-produced many of Mirah's early recordings. Small Sale EP is a 2001 album by Mirah released on Modern Radio Records.
