Short intro

Drama is the tenth studio album by the English progressive rock band Yes, released on 18 August 1980 by Atlantic Records. It was their first album to feature Trevor Horn as lead vocalist, as well as keyboardist Geoff Downes. This followed the departures of Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman after numerous attempts to record a new album in Paris and London had failed. Drama was recorded hurriedly, because a tour had already been booked before the change in personnel. The album marked a departure in the band. Songs in album Yes - Into The Drama CD 1 1980. Following the release of their divisive ninth LP, 1978's Tormato, Yes found themselves gazing weakly into a New Wave-y new decade. Weighed down by mounting creative and personal strain, keyboardist Rick Wakeman and frontman and chief songwriter Jon Anderson fled the band in March 1980, leaving the core trio guitarist Steve Howe, bassist Chris Squire and drummer Alan White without a sense of direction. Meanwhile, Anderson has kept an open mind about Drama even if it isn't his cup of tea. In a 2011 interview, the former Yes vocalist claimed he pushed the band to rehearse Tempus Fugit but got turned down. Drama Yes album. Machine Messiah redirects here. Into the Lens was released as the album's sole single. Yes toured the album with a 1980 tour of North America and the UK, and were met with some negative reactions during the UK leg over the new line-up change. At its conclusion, Yes disbanded. The album was remastered in 2004 with previously unreleased bonus tracks, and it was performed live in its entirety for the first time in 2016. Shying away from their main stream hits for this tour, as a gift to their fans base, they began their set by playing all six songs of the Drama album. The Drama album was followed up by You and I from their 1972 Close To The Edge album and Perpetual Change from their 1971 The Yes Album. The first set was inspiring and immaculately performed. Yes pulls off something I suspect is the hardest thing to do in music they made an excellent album, one that sounds familiar yet original, with a new singer and a new keyboard player. Does Trevor Horn sound exactly like Jon Anderson No. Machine Messiah' for some fans easily makes it into the top 10 of Yes' best numbers, and it's a pity that on his return to the band, Jon Anderson always refused to sing it or any of the Drama' songs onstage. Overall verdict: very good.
