The Age of Plastic is the debut album by the English new wave duo the Buggles, released on 10 January 1980 on Island Records. It is a concept album about the possible repercussions of modern technology. The title was conceived from the group's intention of being a plastic group and the album was produced in the wake of the success of their debut record, Video Killed the Radio Star 1979, which topped the UK Singles Chart. With the album recorded and mixed at Virgin's Town House and Sarm East Studios, it was released by Island Records in 1980. The fun, quirky single Video Killed the Radio Star garnered The Buggles international attention in 1980, but it was just one of The Age of Plastic's fascinating, futuristic visions. From the title track's opening strains, Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes transform your living room into a world of Jetson-like proportions. I still lived in Belgium when the Buggles hit big with the Video Killed the Radio Star in late 1979, and couldn't wait to snap up their debut album, back in the vinyl days. Now, 30 years later, I bought this reissue. The Age of Plastic 11 tracks, includind 3 bonus tracks 48 min. plays like a trip back in time, and plays surprisingly well, frankly.
