And though it's difficult to knock the pioneering flavor of Throbbing Pouch, Musipal may be an even better record - despite the dozens of hilarious samples that open the album on The Premise, it's definitely a more mature album, with clearer ideas and a better production framework for them. Though Thick Stew uses some very familiar - at least to Wagon Christ fans - syrupy, distorted basslines, it's arguably a better track than the Throbbing Pouch classic. Musipal is a studio album by Luke Vibert, released under the alias Wagon Christ. It was released in 2001 on Ninja Tune. Tony Naylor of NME gave the album 3. Spencer Owen of Pitchfork gave the album an 8. 0 out of 10, saying, There are plenty of flavors for anyone on Musipal, although the record as a whole may be too diverse for some, if that's possible. Musipal has more than a couple standout tracks, but out of those, its holy trinity comes during its first half. Natural Suction is Vibert's only full-on journey into jungle and drum 'n' bass beats this time out, and pad synths and strings complement the jittery grooves nicely. And the schizophrenia and variance that is Wagon Christ has finally controlled itself just enough to avoid sounding piecemeal. Musipal is, as of now, the quintessential Wagon Christ record, and its only preconceived purpose is one of simply letting you have fun while trying your damnedest to find one. Album 2001 12 Songs. Unlike Tally Ho which is more interesting and accessible, Musipal is perhaps a little too eclectic to be as satisfying. There are one or two stand-out tracks Receiver is perhaps the best example but, as others have said, this album has a slightly uneven feel to it because it dips in and out of various genres such as break beat, sampling and scratching.
