The one and only Luke Vibert returns to the fray under his most celebrated and wondrous moniker, Wagon Christ to clarify, he is not under a wagon. Nor on one. Nor is he, strictly speaking, Christ, though we cant rule out his messianic status. The king of stoned exotica, ridiculous vocal samples, toothsome puns, swinging rhythm and the psychedelic groove, Vibert has never been one to take himself too seriously, but his music continues to delight. Before Wagon Christ, the only artist I had ever come across with his own distinct electronic sound was Aphex Twin - and it made me ecstatic to hear that these two had worked together before. You get a feel for Luke's style after enough listening because of its distinctness from most anything else out there. This album in particular, his most recent, is fantastic: Toomorrow, Harmoney, Mr. Mukatsuku and Wake Up are among my favorite tracks. I enjoyed the album but I don't think this is Luke at his best. Some lovely tracks on here but in general it can get a bit samey. Read more
