The Obsessed is the first album by the Obsessed, released in 1990 by Hellhound Records. All the songs were recorded in 1985 for an intended album for Metal Blade Records, which had never been released. The release of this album prompted singer Scott Wino Weinrich to leave Saint Vitus and reform The Obsessed with a new rhythm section. The album was re-released by Tolotta Records in 2000 with new artwork and 10 live bonus tracks recorded at Glenmont Rec. Center in Wheaton, Maryland on February 25th, 1984. Washington, DC doom metal overlords the Obsessed started putting out records in 1980, and their whole riff-trudge style has influenced generations of bands. Theyve broken up and reunited a number of times over the years, even as frontman Scott Wino Weinrich has gone on to form bands like Saint Vitus and Spirit Caravan. But they havent released a new album since 1994, and so its big news that theyve once again reassembled and that theyve got a new LP, tentatively titled Sacred, coming out next year. The Obsessed Referred to by band members and some fans as The Purple Album is the eponymous debut album by the Maryland doom metal band of the same name. Originally recorded in 1985 the album would be initially released in 1990 via Hellhound Records, later in 2000 via Tolotta Records and in 2017 via Relapse Records. Besides the Sodden Jackal EP this album is one of only a handful of official releases to feature the original era of The Obsessed. Iconic doom metal band will be releasing a first new album in two decades very soon
