Notes

This is a black vinyl bootleg of the original B12 release. The original 12" can be seen here.

There was never an official repress of any B12 records prior to 2007; this has been stated by the label owners themselves.

Instead of the stickered sleeve from the original release, this 12" comes in a plain black die-cut jacket. More importantly, this record is missing the multiple hand-etched statements which are on every original B12 record.

Matrix numbers on both sides have been etched out on purpose to conceal pressing plant.

Short intro

Musicology is the twenty-eighth studio album by American recording artist Prince. The album was given to concertgoers at his Musicology Tour, from March 27 to September 9, 2004, in North America. A digital release followed two days after his tour started on March 29, 2004. The physical retail version was released on April 19, 2004 Europe and April 20, 2004 US by NPG Records and distributed by Columbia Records. Musicology was the first album in five years ten as Prince that Prince released. Musicology is a song by Prince, and title track from his 2004 album of the same name. The song is an obvious ode to James Brown's style of funk music popularized in the early 1970s. The song is also reminiscent of Prince's own The Work, pt. 1, from his 2001 album The Rainbow Children. The B-side of the single is the Musicology track On the Couch, a seductive ballad with a gospel flavor. In addition, Prince released a song on his website titled Magnificent. Musicology - Prince. This flurry of activity suggests that Prince is treating this as an opportunity for a full-fledged comeback and, thankfully, he's seized this moment and delivered a vastly entertaining record. Unlike everything he's done since leaving Warner, Musicology doesn't alienate listeners it's tight and lean, weighing in at 12 tracks and 47 minutes, yet that's still enough room for Prince to showcase his virtuoso versatility. Now comes Musicology, as appealing, focused and straight-up satisfying an album as Prince has made since who can remember when. Its open, easygoing and inclusive, the sort of album anyone might like. Most notably, Musicology restores a refreshing sense of songcraft to Princes writing. Its relative clarity aside, Musicology is still a Prince album, so it hardly lacks bold ideas. Cinnamon Girl borrows a title from Neil Young and a deft hook from the mid-Eighties to explore racial and ethnic differences in a post-911 world. Other songs sprinkle offhand references to the Iraq war, the Fourteenth Amendment, the Bible, numerology and the corrupting power of greed. The Division of Musicology and Ethnomusicology of the UK School of Music offers a superior education in musicology with its diverse faculty of scholars, its dual emphasis on traditional research and creative explorations in the field, its focus on collaborations between scholarship and performance, and its access to the extensive collections housed in the Lucille Little Fine Arts Library and the John Jacob. The Musicology and Ethnomusicology Division is presently made up of seven full-time faculty and one part-time instructor, whose specialties range from the Medieval period to contemporary music, from chant and opera to fiddle tunes
