The Notorious Byrd Brothers is the fifth album by the American rock band the Byrds, and was released in January 1968, on Columbia Records. The album represents the pinnacle of the Byrds' late-60's musical experimentation, with the band blending together elements of psychedelia, folk rock, country, electronic music, baroque pop, and jazz. With producer Gary Usher, they made extensive use of a number of studio effects and production techniques, including phasing, flanging, and spatial panning. The Byrds. The Byrds began recording sessions for their fifth album in mid June 1967 at Columbia Studios in Hollywood under producer Gary Usher who'd also produced the band's last album, Younger Than Yesterday. Sadly, the process didn't go smoothly and the whole album took sixth months to finish. Both Michael Clarke and David Crosby were let go during the sessions although Michael was brought back to finish the album.
