Short intro

The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl is a live album by the Beatles, released in May 1977, featuring songs compiled from performances at the Hollywood Bowl in August 1964 and August 1965. The album was released by Capitol Records in the United States and Canada and on the Parlophone label in the United Kingdom. It was the band's first official live recording. A remixed, remastered, and expanded version of the album, retitled Live at the Hollywood Bowl, was released on 9 September 2016 to coincide with. Live At The Hollywood Bowl - The Beatles. I also have a 2 CD Import version of the Complete Hollywood Bowl Concerts with Paul's dead mic at the beginning of one of the shows and it sounds very raw. Some completists are complaining that all the shows weren't released in their entirety and are saying CapitolAppleUMe blew it and missed an opportunity BUT no Beatles product is released unless Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison unanimously agree on it. It's compiled from shows at the Hollywood Bowl in August 1964 and 1965. I still have my elderly but pristine vinyl album of the original Beatles Hollywood Bowl release, and I had hoped for many, many years to see it on CD. Documenting The Beatles Hollywood Bowl concerts on tape was no easy feat, as producer Sir George Martin explained in his album notes for 1977s The Beatles At The Hollywood Bowl: The chaos, I might almost say panic, that reigned at these concerts was unbelievable unless you were there. Only three track recording was possible The Beatles had no fold back speakers, so they could not hear what they were singing, and the eternal shriek from 17,000 healthy, young lungs made even a jet plane inaudible. The Beatles only official live album was recorded over three nights at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, in 1964 and 1965. George Martin had originally wanted to record The Beatles concerts at New Yorks Carnegie Hall on 12 February 1964, during their first US visit. Although Capitol Records agreed, he was denied permission by the American Federation of Musicians. As the effects of Beatlemania became all pervasive, the label decided to release a live album to capitalise on The Beatles US success. Capitol Records again recorded the two shows. Capitol Records initially planned to release a live album from the Beatles in 1964, recording the band's August 23 concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Nobody at the label found the results satisfactory so they attempted it again almost exactly a year later, taping the August 29 and 30, 1965 shows at the Hollywood Bowl but, once again, it proved hard to hear the Fab Four from underneath the roar of the crowd, so those tapes were also shelved. When Capitol was designing the Hollywood Bowl album cover in 1977 they decided to use a pair of concert tickets for the cover. Perhaps not having access to complete original Beatles Hollywood Bowl tickets, or maybe because the original tickets did not have a photo on them, they made up their own imitations using ticket styles from the Shea Stadium concerts as well as 1975 Hollywood Bowl shows by Joan Baez and America. In the process, they incorrectly printed the day as Sat. instead of Sun. on both tickets. Shown above are three advance proofs of the tickets. The first. The album, Live at the Hollywood Bowl, coincides with a new documentary by Ron Howard about the bands early career, dubbed Eight Days a Week The Touring Years. The album contains recordings from three different concerts, which took place on August 23rd, 1964 and August 29th and 30th, 1965, and the repertoire covers many of their early hits, including Twist and Shout, Ticket to Ride and A Hard Days Night, among others.
