Short intro
Now's the Time is a 1964 album by jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins, released by RCA Victor featuring performances by Rollins with Herbie Hancock, Thad Jones, Ron Carter, Bob Cranshaw and Roy McCurdy on several bebop tunes. Now's the Time Charlie Parker - 4:06. Blue 'n' Boogie Dizzy Gillespie, Frank Paparelli - 5:32. I Remember Clifford Benny Golson - 2:36. I Remember Clifford Golson - 6:04 Bonus track on CD rerelease. 52nd Street Theme Thelonious Monk - 4:33. Newk's Time is an album by Sonny Rollins. It was his third album for Blue Note Records, recorded in 1957 and released in 1959. The title of the album is a reference to Rollins' nickname Newk, which is apparently based on his resemblance to Don Newcombe, a pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Namely You was taken from the Broadway show Li'l Abner. The release marked the beginning of Blue Note 4000 series: from this album on, the releases would be catalogued as BLP 4. mono and BST 84. Rollins takes to the spacious quartet setting, stretching out on taut versions of Miles Davis' '50s concert opener Tune Up and Kenny Dorham's Asiatic Raes. Sonny Rollins - Newk's Time 1957.
