Inspiration Information is the third album by Shuggie Otis. Released in 1974 on Epic Records, it reached 181 on Billboard's Top 200 Pop Albums list, and its featured single with the title of the same name also reached 56 on the U. R&B charts. It was reissued in 2001 on the label Luaka Bop, receiving widespread acclaim. Pitchfork describes the sound of the album as a combination of smooth, organ-driven California funk, quasi-new age psychedelia, loungey jazz instrumentals, string interludes. Shuggie Otis. Ignored upon its release in 1974 and celebrated upon its reissue in 2001, Shuggie Otis' fourth and last album Inspiration Information exists out of time - a record that was of its time, but didn't belong of it a record that was idiosyncratic but not necessarily visionary. It was psychedelic soul that was released far too late to be part of any zeitgeist and it was buried at the time. Inspiration was re-issued on CD by Talking Heads frontman David Byrne's independent label Luaka Bop Records. This version, released on April 3, 2001, included the original album in its entirety as well as four songs taken from Otis' 1971 album Freedom Flight, including Strawberry Letter 23.
