Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, Op. The Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18, is a concerto for piano and orchestra composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff between the autumn of 1900 and April 1901. The second and third movements were first performed with the composer as soloist on 2 December 1900. The complete work was premiered, again with the composer as soloist, on 9 November 1901, with his cousin Alexander Siloti conducting. This piece is one of Rachmaninoff's most enduringly popular pieces, and established his fame as a concerto composer. Piano Concerto No 2, Op 18. The World of Classical Music. Earl Wild was the chosen one. His impressive musicality and steeled fingers made him a fabulous choice to play Rachmaninov. The Third Piano Concerto is probably the jewel of the crown despite I miss the devilish cadenza of the First Movement. The Second goes to Richter during the middle fifties and William Kapell. Kocsis is competitive in Nos. 1 & 4, but his emphasis is primarily on velocity. Wild shows tremendous bravura in the cadenzas of both 1 & 3, managing at times to sound like two pianos. It is my humble opinion that WildHorenstein produced the definitive recordings in 1965. I like to think that even Sergei would agree with that. Wild is simply mesmerizing. Album 2010 6 Songs.
