He briefly played a Höfner bass but replaced it with a Rickenbacker RM-19994001S, until around 1970 when he switched to Fender Precision basses. He often plays bass using a pick but is also known to play fingerstyle. Not only a bassist and vocalist, Waters has experimented with the EMS Synthi A and VCS 3 synthesisers and has played electric rhythm and acoustic guitars in recordings and in concert. Throughout his career he has used Selmer. George Roger Waters born 6 September 1943 is an English songwriter, singer, bassist, and composer. In 1965, he co-founded the progressive rock band Pink Floyd. Waters initially served solely as the bassist, but following the departure of singer-songwriter Syd Barrett in 1968, he also became their lyricist, co-lead vocalist, and conceptual leader. Pink Floyd achieved international success with the concept albums The Dark Side of the Moon 1973, Wish You Were Here 1975, Animals 1977, and The Wall. Waters' other obsessions themes of battlefield bloodshed, threatened liberty, isolation and madness have advanced much of his solo work beyond Pink Floyd, though he confirmed his next album will not feature former bandmates David Gilmour and drummer Nick Mason. Waters last recorded with the group, excluding Richard Wright, on 1983's anti-war opus, The Final Cut. That album opened with The Post War Dream, the idea of which is somewhat in tatters in the real world, Waters said. But having said that, it is developing in other parts of the world. Roger Waters. Our take on the latest from Pink Floyds bard of bleak, Is This the Life We Really Want By. Picture a shithouse with no fucking drainsPicture a leader with no fucking brains, snarls Roger Waters near the start of his first proper rock LP in nearly 25 years, unsubtle as a hammer between the eyes. But the grim charm of this set, a 12-track dystopian concept LP that makes The Wall read like Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, is precisely his emeritus off-the-leash ranting, a fitting response to the stench and stupidity of our present moment
