Short intro

Neil Young is the self-titled debut studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young following his departure from Buffalo Springfield in 1968, issued on Reprise Records. Some sources place the album's release date on January 22, 1969, while other sources have the release date as Young's 23rd birthday, November 12, 1968. It was then partially remixed and re-released in November 1969, but at no time has the album ever charted on the Billboard 200. Unplugged is a live album by Canadian, American singer-songwriter Neil Young, released on June 15, 1993 on Reprise. The performance was also released on VHS. The recording of Unplugged was reportedly rife with tension, with Young displeased with the performances of many of his band members. The released version was his second attempt at recording a set suitable for airing and release. Bernstein: Neil Young and his wife Susan, backstage at the Electric Factory, February 1970, before a show with his band Crazy Horse that featured a 20-minute rendition of 'Down by the River. I was surprised that they were OK with my photographing them backstage and was thrilled when Neil chose this for the gatefold of his next album, After the Gold Rush. Gardner: What I love about the pictures I took of Neil like this, his silhouettes, is that they are so intimate. Neil is obviously performing here in front of a crowd of thousands of people. The great Neil Young in 1971, his breakout year - singing the songs that would make Harvest a huge hit and Young himself a new kind of rock star. Shot in intimate circumstances at the BBC Studios in London, the program gives us an up-close view of the young Neil, as he switches between piano and guitar, talks humorously to his audience, and interprets his own work with intensity and commitment. In the many years since then, Neil Young has had one of the most compelling careers in folk and rock. Here we see him at the exciting breakout of that career. This electric performance with Crazy Horse essentially makes concrete the fact that Neil Young is the human embodiment of rock 'n' roll, and that he can still rock the hell out of a guitar. One night in Malibu in the summer of 76, Neil Young drove a Cadillac convertible to Indigo Ranch Studios and recorded an album called Hitchhiker. Its ten songs were united by sparse arrangements and a tenuous grasp of time. Names like Kennedy, Nixon, Brando, and Pocahontas commingled with mysterious figures from Youngs own imagination. Hitchhiker, produced by longtime collaborator David Briggs with no overdubs or noticeable effects added, is an intimate snapshot of Neil Youngs creative process, captured at a time when he was crafting music strong enough to last his whole career. Young writes about Hitchhiker in his second memoir, Special Deluxe. Neil Young, his first solo album, recorded in 1968, at 22, after his departure from the supergroup Buffalo Springfield, showed off ageless melodies combined with clever, wised-up lyrics I used to be a folk singerkeeping managers alive . The album failed to sell. The sound was too pretty and too clever at the same time. His second studio album - and first with his longtime band Crazy Horse - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, is my personal favorite Neil Young record, and was also Elliot Robertss favorite he died two months ago. It introduced what became Neils defining edge, i. On his songs for Buffalo Springfield, Neil Young had demonstrated an eclecticism that ranged from the rock of Mr. Soul to the complicated, multi-part arrangement of Broken Arrow
