The song Negasonic Teenage Warhead became the band's first hit single, after having appeared the previous year in different form in the American movie . Other tracks, such as the title track and Dead Christmas however, received little or no airplay, resulting in sales of the album being only slightly better than their previous album, Superjudge. Despite some minor success with Negasonic Teenage Warhead, the Dopes To Infinity project manifestly didnt bring Monster Magnet the kind of world-bothering fame and fortune that record company executives had been hoping for. Nonetheless, it cemented the bands reputation as the undisputed masters of psychedelic hard rock and frontrunners in the burgeoning space and stoner rock boom that was having a particularly large impact in Europe. Maybe Dopeheads to Infinity would have been the better title, but as the title track fires up into another rampage of excessively flanged guitar, storming lead riff, and steady drum stomp, all criticisms get left behind along with any sort of sanity. Wyndorf's singing is a touch crisper in the mix this time out, while the guitar playing is even more powerfully direct and epic amidst all the space-out swirl and rockets to the moon
