Haughty Melodic is an album by Mike Doughty released on May 3, 2005. The album title is an anagram of the artist's fuller name Michael Doughty. Doughty described the album as a bunch of songs about yearning and redemption and happiness and hope. The album's sound is dense, stuffed full of multi-tracked guitars, horns, keyboards, and Doughty's own voice multiplied over himself in harmony a departure both from the sounds of Soul Coughing and Doughty's solo acoustic work. Album 2005 12 Songs. After releasing recordings primarily of acoustic guitar and voice, Mike Doughty teamed up with Semisonics Dan Wilson to record an album that gave his songs a commercial sheen and the chance to land on alternative radio stations, or whatever outlets were playing poppy, literate music in 2005. Signing to Dave Matthews ATO Records gave Doughty further visibility, though itd be interesting to hear what fans of Matthews collegiate jam rock thought of songs with such a deep sarcastic streak.
