Alas, the film soundtrack with the incomparable Mario Lanza and the Columbia studio cast version with Jan Peerce still outdistance this release by a considerable margin. The primary problem is the Prince himself sung by Danish tenor Lauritz Melchior. Melchior has all the notes and is in good voice, but his age works against him. Lauritz Melchior & Jane Wilson: Deep In My Heart Dear from The Student Prince. He was paired with the equally effective Jane Wilson as Kathie, and their Deep in My Heart, Dear duet was a standout. Lee Sweetland handled both the minor roles of Dr. Engel Golden Days and Captain Tarnitz Just We Two, paired in the latter part with Gloria Lane, who played the second female lead, Margaret both sang well.
