Opus 70 is a set of two Piano Trios by Ludwig van Beethoven, written for piano, violin, and cello. Both trios were composed during Beethoven's stay at Countess Marie von Erdödy's estate, and both are dedicated to her for her hospitality. Felix Mendelssohn's Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 49, was completed on 23 September 1839 and published the following year. The work is scored for a standard piano trio consisting of violin, cello and piano. The trio is one of Mendelssohn's most popular chamber works and is recognized as one of his greatest along with his Octet, Op. Chamber Music Work: Felix Mendelssohn 1809-1847, Piano Trio No. 1 in d minor, Op. 49 for violin, cello and piano. To make this duo a trio, Mendelssohn writes an equally memorable piano part, arguably the most distinctive aspect of the trio. Here, despite his common reputation as a conservative classicist, Mendelssohn speaks the true language of his romantic context, writing for the intimate character piece as well as the passionate virtuoso. 49-Piano Trio.
