Apart from leading his 20 member band The African Beats, he also ran a record label and the Ariya Nightclub in Lagos, where he and the band played four hour sets. His songs, mostly composed in Yoruba and English languages, are top notch in the realm of Juju and African pop. Also known as , he is one of the first batch of Nigerian musicians to gain international recognition. He was born on the 22nd of September, 1946 in Osogbo to a royal family.
