Short intro

Fat Albert Rotunda is the eighth album by jazz keyboardist Herbie Hancock, released in 1969. It was Hancock's first release for Warner Bros. Records after his departure from Blue Note Records. The music was originally done for the TV special Hey, Hey, Hey, It's Fat Albert, which later inspired Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids TV show. Fat Albert Rotunda, along with Mwandishi and Crossings was reissued in one set as Mwandishi: The Complete Warner Bros. Recordings in 1994 and as The Warner Bros. Dancing Couple. Fat Album Rotunda was composed by Herbie Hancock as a soundtrack to the TV Series Hey, Hey, Hey, Its Fat Albert. This was Hancocks first release after leaving Blue Note Records and shows a distinct leaning towards a funky tone combined with Hancocks skilled jazz ear. Fat Albert Rotunda Q&A. Fat Albert Rotunda, in contrast, reflects the funkier electric avenues that link Watermelon Man to his contemporary efforts with Davis. I did the music for the Fat Albert cartoon show Bill Cosby did on TV, Hancock explained in a 1971 interview. Bill had the soundtrack tape, which he played for the executives at Warner Bros. and they flipped over it they just loved it. So I chose to record Fat Albert Rotunda as my first album for the label-which gave me the freedom to do Mwandishi next. Produced by Herbie Hancock. Engineered by Rudy Van Gelder.
