Osaka . cadejo Tripper is, oddly, on the more polished and coherent, perhaps streamlined end of Hella's output. It is also such a smooth ride with yet thoroughly enjoyable, upbeat and energetic compositions that rather than diminishing its richness by calling it mainstream, it's safe to prescribe this album as Math Noise 101. Stylistically, I think Tripper is an exciting return to Hella's old, stripped down form. The downside is, though I do think Hella is sounding pretty fierce on this album, the songs are filtered through a pretty weak recording. The guitars and drums sound tinny, flat, and claustrophobic. It's hardly free to Hella Tripper Headless, Self Checkout and more. 10 tracks 39:32. Tripper is the fifth full-length studio album by math rock band Hella. It was their first release through Sargent House. The album is an instrumental record. It was released on August 30, 2011 and marks the band's reduction back to core members Zach Hill and Spencer Seim, after having expanded to a five-piece for their 2007 release There's No 666 in Outer Space. The primary members of the band are Spencer Seim on electric guitar and Zach Hill on drums. In 2005, the band expanded their live band by adding Dan Elkan on vocals, rhythm guitar, sampler and synthesizer and Jonathan Hischke on synth bass guitar for their Church Gone WildChirpin' Hard tour. In 2006 they reformed as a five-piece line-up including Seim, Hill, Carson McWhirter of The Advantage. About Tripper. Hellas fifth full-length album, Tripper is the bands first release following the return to core members Spencer Seim and Zach Hill and the departure from the full band format seen on Theres No 666 in Outer Space. Tripper remains Hellas latest release not including the flexi disc single Santas Little Hella, and while the band has never officially broken up, it is assumed that Zach Hills focus on industrial hip hop group Death Grips led to the extended hiatus that continues to this day.
