King Biscuit Flower Hour Best Of The Biscuit #683-87 A-C & #684-87 A-C
Live at The Los Angeles Forum
Los Angeles, California, USA
14-15 October 1986
Original Airdates:
Part I: 7 June 1987
Part II: 14 June 1987
1987 pre-FM Quadruple Vinyl LP (Side 4 is blank on both parts)

King Biscuit have provided us with another classic, this time from the Invisible Touch tour. Genesis played five nights from 13 October to 17 October 1986 at The Los Angeles Forum and from comparison with audience tapes we know that Phil's dialog is all from the shows recorded on the 14th and 15th. Presumably the songs are also from these two dates. The set features the smoldering closing sections of Supper's Ready at the end of the In The Cage Medley, with Phil's voice in screaming top form. This section was subsequently dropped when Genesis reverted to their standard ending of Afterglow. In Too Deep and Follow You Follow Me, also dropped early in the tour, are present. This gig is the source for the live versions of Invisible Touch and Throwing It All Away released on 12 inch single in the UK titled Genesis - Throwing It All Away (Live Version).

This show was originally broadcast in December of 1986 by King Biscuit as part of a huge, four weekend special entitled "The Genesis Event". The tracks on this two-part set were originally broadcast on Parts III and IV of "The Genesis Event". All four parts are can be viewed here:

They are considered one of the most influential rock bands of the 20th century, selling over 100 million records worldwide and holding a reputation for their live shows and studio work. The Who developed from an earlier group, the Detours, and established themselves as part of the pop art and mod movements, featuring auto-destructive art by destroying guitars and drums on stage. Columbia Records was one of the sponsors of the first shows, along with Pioneer High Fidelity and Scotch recording tape. Columbia begged us to just go down and listen to him because they were promoting Blood, Sweat & Tears. Columbia said, Look, we got Blood, Sweat & Tears, who had three monster hits at that time, and Mahavishnu Orchestra, because they were a brand new act and because John McLaughlin was with a lot of famous groups, Miles Davis, he was well known. During that year, they gave a handful of concerts, and the live King Biscuit Flower Hour captures their virtues quite well, arguably even better than the studio record. Not only are highlights from GTR are featured, but so are Yes' Roundabout and Genesis' I Know What I Like, as well as the previously unreleased song Prize Fighter. I had heard some things about the King Biscuit label in the late 90s that perhaps some of their finances' were not exactly used in the best way possible Whether this was true or not, its unfortunate the label seems to have gone belly-up as for those of us old enough to remember- The King Biscuit Flower Hour was a treasure for true music fans, and I remember taping several shows way back when. King Biscuits 10cc show is one of the best in the series

This is BY FAR my favorite Genesis radio show, as I remember recording the original broadcast onto cassette tapes across two consecutive weekends in June of 1987. As a side note, I was offered a ticket to see this tour at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C., but my father would not let me go as he felt I was too young to attend a concert. I have not forgiven him to this day...
