Gene Vincent, real name Vincent Eugene Craddock, February 11, 1935 October 12, 1971 was an American rockabilly pioneer musician, best known for his hit Be-Bop-A-Lula. He performed with his backing band, the Blue Caps. Be-Bop-A-Lula is a rockabilly song first recorded in 1956 by Gene Vincent and His Blue Caps. Evidently the song originated in 1955, when Vincent was recuperating from a motorcycle accident at the US Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia.
