Short intro
For his 18th album on Stony Plain, Duke Robillard leads his band - Bruce Bears on piano, Brad Hallen on acoustic bass, and Mark Teixeira on drums - through a set of covers of often obscure blues tunes from the late 1940s and early 50s. Michael John Duke Robillard born October 4, 1948 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island is an American blues musician. After paying his dues in various bands and even working for Guild guitars, he co-founded Roomful of Blues with pianist Al Copley in 1967. He has also been a member of the Fabulous Thunderbirds which included Kim Wilson, replacing Jimmie Vaughan. Although an extremely competent guitarist in Jazz, Swing, Rock and Roll and modern electric blues forms, Duke is generally regarded as the foremost authority and guitar player keeping the blues style of T-Bone Walker alive and well. 1 Quicksand 3:12 2 Trainfare Home 4:35 3 Mercy Mercy 3:04 4 Overboard 3:18 5 Blues After Hours 4:33 6 Want Ad Blues 3:58 7 Do Unto Others 2:27 8 It's Alright 3:22 9 Let Me Play with Your Poodle 2:35 10 Tool Bag Boogie 3:10 11 What's Wrong 3:35. 12 I Ain't Mad at You 3:30 13 The 12 Year Old Boy 4:31 14 Later for You Baby 3:18. About this release. Stony Plain. The Duke Robillard Band returns with a collection of high energy uptown & lowdown blues that Duke loved, and sometimes learnt, when he was 17 years old Years later he still remembers the lyrics. They brought out Duke's 'wildest' guitar playing and singing yet. I've been following The Duke Robillard Band for about twenty-five years now, and Low Down & Tore Up just reminded me why. With a voice that congers Howlin' Wolf, and gutbucket rockin' blues delivered with a Live feeling, this is good times get-on-the-floor or order another round of beers while I dance with your baby, music. But we used to get them opening for us on our shows when it was smaller and when they were just stating out. A wider audience would be stunned that records like Low Down and Tore Up are still made if they were given a chance.
