Dream Theater is the twelfth studio album by American progressive metal band Dream Theater, released through Roadrunner Records on September 23, 2013 in Europe and a day later in North America. The album was written, recorded, mixed, and mastered between January and May 2013 at Cove City Sound Studios in Long Island, New York, the same studio as the band's previous album, A Dramatic Turn of Events 2011. It is the first Dream Theater album to include drummer Mike Mangini in the songwriting process. Dream Theater is the eponymous 12th studio album by Dream Theater. It was released on September 23rd, 2013. Dream Theater is the second album to feature drummer Mike Mangini, and their first album where he is entirely included in the songwriting process from the start. There are so many good Dream Theater albums that it was a hard decision but I really had to go with this one. It had the best atmosphere. Dream Theater havent made a consistently poor album, but their debut is by far their weakest. Recorded three years after they formed, it suffers from three main drawbacks: a muddy production by Rush associate Terry Date, relatively rudimentary songwriting and compositional skills certainly compared to what came later, and the high-pitched yelps of original singer Charlie Dominci, who left the band soon afterwards. In the plus column were future live favourites A Fortune In Lies and The Killing Hand, and the instrumental The Ytse Jam, all of which point. But Dream Theater quickly rebounded instead, adding drummer Mike Mangini for the aptly named A Dramatic Turn of Events , and showing no sign of slowing down over two more albums a self-titled effort and 2016s once again fully conceptual The Astonishing , and this pretty much brings us up to date on their story.
