Short intro

Operation Hummingbird is a studio album by Death In June, released in 1999. The album contains seven new songs recorded with Albin Julius of Der Blutharsch. It is considered a smaller, sister album to Take Care & Control. Gorilla Tactics 1:45. Kapitulation 3:09. Flieger 6:02. The Snows of the Enemy Little Black Baby 6:15. Hand Grenades and Olympic Flames 2:58. Winter Eagle 3:53. Let the Wind Catch a Rainbow on Fire 4:07. Death in June - Rose Clouds of Holocaust Full Album 1995. Язык: Русский. Страна: США. For Operation Hummingbird, Death in June frontman Douglas P. programmed seven dense, dirge-like tracks with heavily orchestrated samples and only occasional concessions to a beat. Led by chanting vocals, The Snows of the Enemy Little Black Baby and Let a Wind Catch a Rainbow on Fire are eerily reminiscent of Britain's pre-Christian past. And the collaboration with Albin Julius added a vast classical element. This album also contains some of the best songs of DEATH IN JUNE ever, all overlooked by the fantastic Kapitulation. Sadly with every next album, Death in June became a marketing strategy in themselves, pathetic apocalypse preachers, tasteless propaganda and tasteless cover art. In total, Douglas P is an old yank still hiding behind his masks forgetting the fact he's a grown man. I still like the early Death in June. I often wonder why these cd's and lp's don't hold value like coil discs do. It must have something to do with the fact that so many people think Doug is the second coming of Hitler. That's crazy he is just a strange rich man with esoteric hobbies and a real talent for making relative basic song structures sound fuller and more complex. He also knows how to make sweet packaging for his products. I think he is far more harmless than he is made out to be. Remember openly talking about sex with men and supporting the 4th reich don't go together so well

DEATH IN JUNE/Douglas P. in his most experimental phase. "Operation Hummingbird" is by far the most powerful recording of DEATH IN JUNE. And the collaboration with Albin Julius added a vast classical element. This album also contains some of the best songs of DEATH IN JUNE ever, all overlooked by the fantastic "Kapitulation". In comparison, "Take Care and Control" seems only to be the warm-up for "Operation Hummingbird". While most DIJ-albums are fine and silent recordings for quiet moments, this needs to be played LOUD. It was clear that this would not be the lasting music style for DIJ but I would have wished for a third recording in that way.Nevertheless, one great album and amongst the best of DIJ!

Unlike other rewievers, i prefer this album over earlier Take Care And Control. The style here is very similar to TCaC, but adds in more groove and faster pace. This new more poppy direction and the shorter length of the album make this, for me, a much more pleasurable listen than the previous one. There is subtle comedy all through the album hidden within the outwardly fascist imagery (Shooting from behind into the black sun.... Brilliant! :D) which adds a completely new element to the otherwise very serious style of Death In June.Majority of Albin Julius's work has not impressed me too much, but here i really like the militant martial element he has added to the softer, more folkier elements by Douglas. Great album, even though not nearly the best by DIJ.

I agree some of the words are silly but the programming on this and take care is great I love the use of samples and more newer technology. I seriously doubt he is a real nazi with his blatant gay lyrics and openly gay lifestyle. I just think him being an eccentric wealthy and insane gay man he likes the nazi aesthetic and vibe of male militaristic force. I guess I don't care what he is I just like his music. There is not much else like it except Albins bands but that's to be expected. My favorite overall is wall of sacrifice

Many DiJ fans said this album sucks, and the lyrics are stupid. but as a man of music, not of words, i must say: this album is great! It's so wonderfully weird to hear DIJ doing groovy music. i prefer "Take Care & Control", but this one is really great to. Douglas P should work more often with Albin Julius. Flieger is really fun to listen to, and Gorilla Tactics is also good, although the words are pretty stupid. Too bad there aren't any DiJ albums for sale in israel (Yes, Iilegally downloaded this album, but i'll buy it as soon as i can, promise!). 45

God knows I liked Death in June for the powerful military drummings of their early repertoire where fascist icons were less obvious or at least more creatively insulting to the conventional musics... I just probably overgrew the new one because there's nothing much to it any more.

I know you didn't ask me, but as you've mentioned Wall of Sacrifice and Rose Clouds, I'd add What will happen when the Symbols Shatter and Brown Book and The World that Summer... basically anything from the Pierce/Tibet collaboration days... Nada too, though I don't think Pierce had fully found his own voice that early, still channeling I.C., but still powerful and worthwhile. Tibet annoys some DIJ fans, but Pierce loved and respected him, and they helped each other evolve as artists prior to their going separate ways, and I think Tibet's influence was huge and helpful, based on things Pierce has said, even if some of you wish he hadn't added so many vocals. I actually prefer Current 93 for many reasons, but there is no denying that Pierce has a great voice and a knack for turning something very simple into magic and beauty, especially when he started singing with his own voice and stopped imitating Ian Curtis. Tibet? Has to grow on you, but is great. Wakeford? Has to grow on you, if it ever does. Still trying with S.I. but not getting much traction yet. With some of the C93 records, up to the present day, it might take several unpleasant and uncomprehending listens before it finally clicks and repeated listens become essential for life.

Just curious what older stuff do you like most? Wall of sacrifice and rose clouds are two of my favorites

What do you mean by yank? That term typically means american and we all know he is not american. I think this album is a progression from older stuff. I like the old as well as the new but the new is deffinatly stranger and the songs have more to them than some of the old repetitive noise loop stuff like death is a drummer. He is a good entertainer. I saw him once and despite the fact that the stage show was scaled back and basic the music made up for it. He is a strange and talented guy and he came up close with all the world serpent alumni during a crazy time for England and underground music. He is obviously very smart and has total control over what direction his project goes.
