Short intro

And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out is the ninth studio album by American indie rock band Yo La Tengo, released on February 22, 2000 by record label Matador. And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out was recorded at Alex the Great in Nashville, Tennessee and mixed at the Big House in Manhattan, New York City. The album was produced by Roger Moutenot and released on February 22, 2000 by Matador Records. The title of the album is likely derived. But Yo La Tengo have spent their long and noble career proving theres another side to the story. Guitarist Ira Kaplan and drummer Georgia Hubley are married people who like each other, quite the rock & roll novelty. Kaplan and Hubley sing their most confessional, intimate lyrics ever, over whispery guitars, brushed percussion, vibes and organ drones. After years as one of indie rock's standard-bearing groups, Yo La Tengo surpasses itself with And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out. A culturally literate, emotionally rich album, on songs like Let's Save Tony Orlando's House, The Crying of Lot G, and The Last Days of Disco, it alludes to The Simpsons, enigmatic author Thomas Pynchon and independent films while exploring the comforting, confining, complex aspects of relationships. Yo La Tengo have finally reached the upper echelon of society: yuppies Amidst our flaring economy, the cash-obsessed, egocentric 'elite. For years, Yo La Tengo have cranked out incredibly diverse albums with songs ranging from gentle western twang, to noise-fueled indie anthems, to lengthy, distortion-soaked instrumental epics. But here, Yo La Tengo have eliminated the noise they built their name on. Upbeat' is no longer an accurate descriptor for the trio's music. Rather, this is an album filled with songs in the vein of I Can Hear the Heart's Shadows, Electr-O-Pura's The Hour Grows Late, and the droning seven-minute version of Big Day Coming off Painful. Everything works so well because Yo La Tengo can create such a somber atmosphere using minimal instrumentation. The Crying of Lot G shows off its beauty with delicate acoustic strums, its built off of simple guitar scales yet it is still able to create an intricate and laid-back sound. Its safe to say that at least 80 of And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out is on the melancholy, depressing side. Fortunately the other 20 is filled sugary pop hooks and uplifting lyrics ,something that Yo La Tengo were known for during their early years in the late 80's. At first there was nothing At first there was nothing then nothing turned itself inside-out and became something. Critics praised the record, even though it was a bit of a departure from some of their earlier work. It was ranked 77 in Rolling Stones 100 Best Albums of the 2000s. And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out Q&A. The first three-quarters of Inside-Out contains some of Yo La Tengo's best work to date. As a whole, however, it may be one of their less ear-catching records. Full Review. not quite as star-studded as its predecessor, but it's still another subtle beauty in Yo La Tengo's discography. 2mo. And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out.
