Short intro
Stuff Like That There is the fourteenth full-length album by American indie rock band Yo La Tengo, released in August 2015 by record label Matador. On this album, the band revisits the original concept of their 1990 album Fakebook with a mix of cover songs, covers of Yo La Tengo songs and brand new originals. Stuff Like That There - Yo La Tengo. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей. Yo La Tengo were essentially the first on-demand music-streaming service. Through the eclectic all-request sets they used to perform for WFMUs annual fundraising drive and, more recently, their annual Hanukkah shows at Maxwells in Hoboken, the band has amassed an infinite jukebox of cover songs spanning golden oldies to underground oddities. But Stuff Like That There makes perfect sense in the wake of 2009s Popular Songs and 2013s Fade, which displayed a gradual drift away from the bands feedback-blasted extendo-jams toward succinct, small-scale statements. Yo La Tengo singers Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley sound more intimately enamored with their material than ever on their second album of cover versions with two new originals. Gentle guitars, brushed drums, and whispery vocals sketch the democratically diverse contours of tunes by Hank Williams I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, The Parliaments I Can Feel the Ice Melting, and The Cure Friday I'm in Love. The band even covers itself, downshifting the formerly raging Deeper Into Movies into a dreamy lullaby. Stuff Like That There Yo La T. Stuff Like That There. The group's 1990 album Fakebook was a patchwork of cover songs along with a handful of originals and remakes of its own catalog that reverentially stitched together everything from Cat Stevens' rarefied folk to Rex Garvin & The Mighty Cravers' juke-joint R&B. Stuff Like That There is cut from the same quilt. As with Fakebook, Stuff Like That There reunites former YLT guitarist Dave Schramm with founding members Ira Kaplan guitar and Georgia Hubley drums, along with longtime bassist James McNew. Indie-rock standard bearers chill out on a mostly covers set. The Velvet Underground are a durable rock-band model, one that Hoboken's Yo La Tengo have plumbed over 14 LPs, suggesting where that noisy, lyrical, short-lived group might've gone. The latest is lean, hushed and mostly covers, including a take on Yo La's own The Ballad of Red Buckets. Georgia Hubley treats the Cure's Friday I'm in Love like a fireside singalong I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry follows Hank Williams' original through Al Green's version with a nod to the Everly Brothers. New album Stuff Like That There named after a Betty Hutton hit from 1945, which isn't included almost exactly reprises the format of Yo La Tengo's 1990 album Fakebook: a couple of new songs, a few remakes of older originals and a whole lot of covers, rendered in YLT's quieter, semi-acoustic mode. Former bandmate Dave Schramm sits in on lead guitar while drummer Georgia Hubley and guitarist Ira Kaplan sing almost under their breath, their harmonies more weathered and intuitive now than they were during the Fakebook era.
