It was an album I randomly decided to sample and I had no previous knowledge of the band. I therefore wasn't expecting much and I was very pleasantly surprised by what I heard. My favorite era in metal has always been the period that encompassed the late 70's and early 80's, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. It was an exciting time and I was as enthusiastic a metalhead as anyone in those days. My first listen to Over The Top was akin to being rocketed back in time to that era. Over The Top. Now I wont be coy: Ive already unveiled how it is that I feel about retro heavy metal. Sure, its got its moments, but all-in-all I think that these styles are better left in the past. White Wizzard does a good job of capturing the things that made the scene great: the dueling guitars, the epic riffs and the song structures on Over the Top sound like they come straight out of Killers-era Steve Harris playbook.
