This was the only meeting on records by Adderley and Montgomery and, although not quite a classic encounter, the music highlighted by The Chant, Never Will I Marry and two takes of Au Privave swings hard and is quite enjoyable. The highlight of the album is the closer, a very nice 8 minute, briskly swinging Never Will I Marry. In May of 1960, Montgomery's trio were across the Bay at an Oakland club, while Adderley's quintet played a return gig in San Francisco and Ray Brown was appearing in San Fran with the Oscar Peterson Trio.
