Short intro

Band: Voivod Country of Origin: Canada Genre: Progressive Thrash Metal Year: 2006 Lineup: Snake Vocals Away is the eleventh studio album and fourteenth release overall by the Canadian heavy metal band Voivod, released on July 25, 2006. The name of the album is a phonetic spelling of quatorze, the French word for fourteen. Demos for the album had been made, but before the band could properly begin recording it guitarist Denis D'Amour . Piggy died on August 25, 2005 due to colon cancer. The guitar and bass tracks for Katorz had been recorded by D'Amour and bassist Jason Newsted formerly of. First Voivod album to feature Denis D'Amour aka Piggy's never released material before his death. Not only did he play guitar on all tracks, but the rest of the band also played around his parts. Notice that the word quatorze spelled as katorz means fourteen in French. This album is fourteenth in discography including compilations. Recording information: Recorded 2004-2006 at Chophouse, Piccolo and Multisons. Voivod - Katorz 2006. ïvod : Katorz. Thrash Metal, Canada 2006 - Nuclear Blast Learn more. THE GETAWAY. Bring the boys back they're under attack Pack up your stuff before you get smacked The maps are folded the truck's are loaded The spirit of the troops by the heat remolded The plan was simple and time was crucial Who knows now if it's still essential A sort of revenge gone out of hand Black gold is worth a. few dead men. Voivod - Katorz review: A fantastic tribute to a great guitarist. Voivod will always be one of those bands that I think are criminally underrated. Not only are they one of the finest thrash bands of all time, they have influence almost every progressive metal band to exist. Unfortunately, their guitarist, Denis Piggy DAmour died in 2005 from colon cancer. His strange, jazz influenced guitar playing was part of what made Voivod so unique. The remaining members decided to use guitar parts Piggy had saved to his computer to craft a new album, and it is a fitting tribute to one of the most unique guitarists of all time. So as a tribute of sorts to their friend, Voivod finished off a handful of these tracks, and issued them as 2006's Katorz a title that the late guitarist had scrawled on a CD demo. Interestingly, although they're known primarily for prog-metal explorations remember the near 20-minute Jack Luminous, Voivod are at their most straightforward and economical on Katorz, especially such tracks as Dognation and the album opening The Getaway. Katorz marks what will likely be the end of Voivod. While the album was being recorded, founding guitarist Denis Piggy D'Amour died of cancer. He was one of the greatest metal guitarists who ever lived, and barely anyone has heard of him. Determined to ensure the fans had one last hurrah, the rest of the band added their parts to Piggy's completed guitar demos and released this album. Like the previous eponymous effort, Katorz is fairly straight-foward, though it contains elements of old. As always, Piggy's fretwork is original and inspired. Voivod is the tenth studio album and thirteenth release overall by Canadian thrash metalprogressive metal band Voivod. It is the first to feature, since 1993's The Outer Limits, returning vocalist Denis Bélanger Snake and their first recording with bassist Jason Newsted Jasonic, formerly of Metallica. It was released in 2003 on Newsted's Chophouse Records label. This is also the last album Voivod completed before guitarist Denis D'Amour Piggy died of colon cancer in 2005
