Virginia Astley was born in Garston, Hertfordshire, England, alongside her twin, Alison in 1959, the second daughter of composer Edwin Astley, noted for TV. Accompanied by her daughter Florence Astley on harp, Virginia recited poetry from her book, 'The English River'. The occasion was also marked by a unique collaboration between Virginia,Florence,Hannah Peel and poet Will Burns. Discussions on how they would integrate poetry, flute, harp and electronic keyboards were held on the day before, along with a rehearsal session.
