In the Street is ninth album by the Village People featuring the return of its original lead singer Victor Willis. Ray Simpson who had replaced Willis is featured on two songs, Everybody Loves the Funk and Radio Freak. The G. Alex Briley also sings lead on one song, Lonely Lady. Village People are an American disco group known for their on-stage costumes, catchy tunes, and suggestive lyrics. The group was originally formed by French producers Jacques Morali, Henri Belolo and lead singer Victor Willis following the release of the debut album Village People, which targeted disco's large gay audience. The group's name refers to New York City's Greenwich Village, at the time known for its large gay population. The characters were a symbolic group of American masculinity and macho. Village People is the self-titled debut album by Village People, released on July 11, 1977. Its hit song San Francisco You've Got Me reached the top 50 in the UK, peaking at 45. Village People was the creation of Jacques Morali, a French composer. He had written a few dance tunes when he was given a demo tape recorded by singeractor Victor Willis. Morali approached Willis and told him, I had a dream that you sang lead on my album and it went very, very big. Willis agreed. In the Street.
