Short intro

Gentleman of the Trombone - Vic Dickenson. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей. Vic Dickenson was one of the great trombone stylists whose relaxed sound, slurred notes, and impeccable feel invested every solo with a unique warmth never duplicated by anyone else. While he was often recorded as a sideman, he was rarely captured as a leader. This mid-'70s studio session, recorded late in his career, features a mature Dickenson leading a sympathetic rhythm section of pianist Johnny Guarnieri, bassist Bill Pemberton, and drummer Oliver Jackson. The real treasure is the chance to hear the trombonist playing tunes with which he was comfortable and improvising at length. Victor Dickenson August 6, 1906 November 16, 1984 was an American jazz trombonist. His career began in the 1920s and continued through musical partnerships with Count Basie 194041, Sidney Bechet 1941, and Earl Hines. Born in Xenia, Ohio, United States, in 1906, Dickenson wanted to be a plasterer like his father, but he abandoned the idea after injuring himself by falling off a ladder. He studied organ from 1922, then changed to performing trombone with local bands. He made his recording debut. There was an album from the late fifties, on Verve, with Lester Young, Roy Eldridge, Teddy Wilson, and Vic that stands out as a masterpiece of small group swing. Vic's playing was exquisite. His playing on this recording, some fifteen years or so later, has lost none of it's charm or character. This guy was one of the best and will always be fondly remembered by those who heard him play.
