It is a concept album that tells the story of a war between Heaven and Hell which the latter side wins. It was touted as Venom's crossover into mainstream music, but failed to do so. So when it came time to record their third album, At War with Satan, the band took desperate measures to try and validate both their technical ability as musicians and their songwriting capabilities. Their folly gave birth to the album's bloated magnum opus of a title track - a twenty-minute concept piecesonic ordeal taking up the album's entire first half and dedicated to the lord of darkness himself no, not Ozzy, the Devil. Like most Back on Black reissues, this is a straight CD transfer, it doesn't sound great but Venom is not even close to audiophile talks to begin with. Still, there's an evident lack of punch and dynamics in this reissue. Good point is that the gatefold looks pretty cool, and this 2xLP reissue includes a shitload of b-sides and alternate recordings, making it a good compilation. Venom's second album proved influential enough that its title was used as the name of the extreme metal subgenre of black metal.
