Notes
A SIZZLING TIME CAPSTULE OF THE EARLY '80s MUSIC SCENE!It's live and loud. It's urgent and proud. It's more than two-dozen young, energetic bands caught in the act and making the music and moments matter in hot, crowded, amped venues scattered across L.A., London, New York City and elsewhere. It's big hair, little hair, guys, girlz - with music styles ranging from minimalist electronica to reggae to theatrical camp to mosh-worthy mayhem. It's catchy, it's topical, it's angry, it's playful, it's live. And it lives on in a rocking, throbbing, sights-and-sounds showcase featuring The Police, Devo, The Go-Gos, Oingo Boingo, X, The Cramps, Surf Punks, Joan Jett, Pere Ubu and more. Turn it on, turn it up, this means war: Urgh! A Music War.

Short intro
Urgh A Music War is a 1982 British film featuring performances by punk rock, new wave, and post-punk acts, filmed in 1980. Among the artists featured in the film are Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark OMD, Magazine, The Go-Go's, Toyah Willcox, The Fleshtones, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, X, XTC, Devo, The Cramps, Oingo Boingo, Dead Kennedys, Gary Numan, Klaus Nomi, Wall of Voodoo, Pere Ubu, Steel Pulse, Surf Punks, 999, The Alley Cats, UB40, Echo & the Bunnymen and The Police. These were many of the. The record is subtitled A Music War. But the British bands that dominate the album were battling the social and economic woes of the U. as much as rebelling against the commerciality and smugness in popular rock music emanating from the States. The lineup features a smorgasbord of cutting-edge new wave bands in hot live outings in the U. and U. While much of the music is period-dated, the performances are heartfelt and hold up surprisingly well. Alternative rock must always be in style, after all, or rock itself is finished. The Alley Cats in particular are one of the acts that make the film a great archival item. Great album, even better film, if you have the time. Read more. URGH a Music War was first a film and double LP soundtrack. It was released back in 1982, when I was first getting my feet wet in British and American post-punk music. An important and lasting legacy of Urgh was that it brought some previously unknown bands to the attention of a much broader audience than would ever have been possible otherwise. I'm referring here to acts such as Skafish, the late Klaus Nomi, The Alley Cats, Gang Of Four, Pere Ubu, X and The Cramps. This is my favorite performance of Down in the Park by Gary Numan and is featured in Urg A music War I in no way own any of the footage or its contents. Urgh A Music War. 19 February 2017 .
