Recorded April 8th 1997, Shibuya On Air West. I found this in the reduced price rack in the Virgin Megastore in Paris. Its rather a bizarre tribute, in that Rick Danko simply does four old Band songs. Theyre not even ones that Jerry Garcia covered, and I thought the point of these things was doing versions of the artists songs. In his interview sequence Danko says he met Garcia Back in the sixties - 1965 I guess, when The Band and The Grateful Dead were cutting. There's a nice banjo background to this one along with a tasty clarinet in there that again calls up a sonic vision of New Orleans in a sentimental vein. Like the Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly Tribute this album has well selected artists who do an excellent job of performing Jimmie Rodgers' tunes. I grew up listening to Jimmie Rodgers and these all are great intrepretations of his music. Not a bad cut among the CD, I listen beginning to end often and never tire of the tunes
