Short intro

Recorded April 8th 1997, Shibuya On Air West. I found this in the reduced price rack in the Virgin Megastore in Paris. Its rather a bizarre tribute, in that Rick Danko simply does four old Band songs. Theyre not even ones that Jerry Garcia covered, and I thought the point of these things was doing versions of the artists songs. In his interview sequence Danko says he met Garcia Back in the sixties - 1965 I guess, when The Band and The Grateful Dead were cutting. Rick Danko performs a set in Japan, April 8th 1997 in tribute to Jerry Garcia. Dub from LaserDisc. February 18, 1997. Some Deadheads use the term X Factor to describe the intangible element that elevates mere performance into something higher. Publicist and Jerry Garcia biographer Blair Jackson stated that shows were the sacrament. rich and full of blissful, transcendent musical moments that moved the body and enriched the soul. They handed out garbage bags at shows for people to pick up trash afterwards and tried to keep the masses mellow. December 22, 2017 . Jerry Garcia. December 17, 2017 . After the Garcia Celebration, photographer Jay Blakesberg - who had shot various permutations of the Dead for more than 30 years - offered to connect Mayer, who was selected to take Garcias position in Dead & Company in 2016, with the guitars. Mayer had come out to Red Rocks to sit in with original Dead member Bob Weir, who was performing with his own band, Ratdog. And then he asked me, Do you think it would be appreciated by the Deadheads I immediately said ABSOLUTELY I knew the time was right I felt a deep responsibility to do what I could to make this a reality as I knew the whole community would love it and I did not want this idea to slip away. How about a little Jerry Garcia and David Grisman doing their rendition of Blue Yodel 9 When I listen to this one, all I can see as a mental picture is Jerry's big ol' grin coming out of that beard. There's a nice banjo background to this one along with a tasty clarinet in there that again calls up a sonic vision of New Orleans in a sentimental vein. Like the Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly Tribute this album has well selected artists who do an excellent job of performing Jimmie Rodgers' tunes. I grew up listening to Jimmie Rodgers and these all are great intrepretations of his music. Not a bad cut among the CD, I listen beginning to end often and never tire of the tunes
