Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era is a compilation album of American psychedelic and garage rock singles released in the mid-to-late 1960s. It was assembled by Lenny Kaye, who at the time was a writer and clerk at the Village Oldies record shop in New York. He would later become the lead guitarist for the Patti Smith Group. Kaye worked on Nuggets under the supervision of Jac Holzman, founder of Elektra Records. Kaye initially conceived the project as series of approximately. It was incredibly popular among the burgeoning punk rock scene, whose sound would be shaped by the garage rock and psychedelic sounds on this album. It was put together by Lenny Kaye and released by Elektra records, and its liner notes featured one of the first coinages of the term punk rock. It was later named among Rolling Stone magazines 500 Greatest Albums of Al. First released in 1972 on Elektra Records, the compilation is among the only various artists' titles to consistently wind up on published lists of all-time top albums'. Nuggets spawned more than 200 like-minded collections under such titles as Pebbles and Back From The Grave, and is a consistent compilation favourite and has carved out a genre of its own.
