Short intro

Certainly Nash Vegas is the capital of country music, but in its day it also boasted a wealth of stomping rhythm and blues music that flourished in the city for the better part of three decades, until the bulldozers of urban renewal destroyed much of its cultural base and forced it from its terrain. A two disc compilation of R&B songs from 1945-1970 recorded in Nashville, Tennessee. The compilation was spawned by an exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. It won a Grammy Award for producers Michael Gray and Daniel Cooper and audio engineers Joe Palmaccio and Alan Stoker in 2005. Nashville Jumps. Buzzard Pie. Skip's Boogie. L & N Special. Night Train to Nashville features mainstream hits created here by the original artists, as well as many which were covered by top rockers in the 60's and 70's. I grew up listening to these songs not realizing that the true beginnings were in Nashville. What a treasure this CD set is a piece of history. By Various Artists. 2005 , 39 songs. Gene Simmons. The term 'rhythm & blues,' or 'R&B,' came into common usage in the late 1940s to describe an African-American popular music that evolved primarily from pre-war jazz, blues, and gospel. In segregated Nashville, jazz and blues flourished in the black nightclubs and theaters, while the gospel influence took hold in churches. Many who played R&B music learned their craft in the rigorous education programs of the city's black high schools and colleges.
