The Cape Breton Connection gathers material from some of Nova Scotia's finest practitioners of traditional CelticScottish music, which flourished in immigrant communities thanks to the province's relative isolation. In the 19th century, immigrants from Scotland settled on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, which, because of its geographical isolation, allowed the musical traditions of those first settlers to pass to future generations essentially free of outside influences. In the 1970s, people began to realize that many tunes, instrumental techniques, and dance steps that are extinct in Scotland were alive and thriving in Cape Breton. Along with the music is a bit of that Cape Breton humor too as Buddy Macmaster quips at the very beginning of track 8, So, you're gonna make me play once more, eh as someone responds Yea, sure as the croud laughs and claps in approval
