Prior to the release of The Next Four Years, United Nations released Serious Business and Meanwhile on Main Street for online streaming. While the album was released in more traditional formats, The Next Four Years was meant to be experienced as a boxed set. The boxed-set version was limited to 1,000 copies that were hand-assembled. The project's always practiced warfare via confusion, and their latest album is structured around the band's fake mythology musically, though, The Next Four Years moves like a piece of fine engineering-all curved lines, no wind resistance. The Next Four Years is no different. Where previous United Nations releases saw Rickly's emo-grind vision filtered through the creative lenses of his contemporaries, the line up behind The Next Four Years is just as caught up in the zeitgeist of the current heavy music scene as it is influenced by Rickly's time in Thursday. The result is an instantly familiar record.
