Tracklist slightly different from the original album.Short intro
October is the second studio album by Irish rock band U2. It was released on 12 October 1981 by Island Records, and was produced by Steve Lillywhite. The album was lyrically inspired by the memberships of Bono, the Edge, and Larry Mullen Jr. in a Christian group called the Shalom Fellowship, and consequently it contains spiritual and religious themes. Their involvement with Shalom Fellowship led them to question the relationship between the Christian faith and the rock and roll lifestyle, and. October, originally with the working title of Scarlet, was released in the summer of 1981. In several countries, October was re-issued on 5 CD in March 1996 as part of the Island Master series. This Island Masters re-issue featured higher quality paper and extra pictures from the original LP's inner sleeve. However, a different back cover featured a black and white photograph of the band instead of the photo of the docks in Dublin from the original version of October. Conversely, it never cracked the Top 100 on the US album charts and didn't rise higher than where it was certified platinum by the RIAA. UK magazine New Musical Express voted the album No. 4 in its annual poll. October is the second album by Irish rock band U2, released in 1981. The album featured spiritual themes, inspired by Bono, The Edge, and Mullen's memberships in a Christian group called the Shalom Fellowship, which led them to question the relationship between the Christian faith and the rock and roll lifestyle. Quite boldly, the record placed an emphasis on religion and spirituality, particularly in the songs Gloria featuring a Latin chorus of Gloria, in te domine, With a Shout Jerusale. This album is often referred to as U2s most religious piece of work as it contains many references to God and has spiritual themes throughout. It was made after the bands participation in the Christian organisation, The Shalom Fellowship, and describes the struggle U2 has between following a spiritual lifestyle and the rock and roll way of life. During the album production, Bono lost a briefcase which contained lyrics for some of the songs, resulting in him having to improvise lyrics so that the album could be r. U2 sounded so confident and assured on their debut that perhaps it was inevitable they would stumble slightly on its follow-up, October. The record isn't weaker than its predecessor because it repeats the formula of Boy. It's because the band tries too hard to move forward. Bono, in particular, tries too hard to make big political, emotional, and religious statements, but the remainder of the band isn't innocent. In general, the music is too pompous, with the sound overwhelming the actual songs. October saw U2 rise to the challenge of proving to be more than a one-album wonder and creating new work under the pressure of growing expectation. That track would underpin what became the second U2 album. Listen to October right now. October saw the band rising not only to the usual challenges of proving that youre more than a one-album wonder, but to the specific pressure of creating new work as the clock ticked ever louder. When Bonos initial lyrics for the new songs were lost, he had to rewrite them in the studio at Windmill, with producer Steve Lillywhite poised to press record. Fire was the fanfare, the opening shot, and it made some noise. The album starts with dance songs like Discoteque and Do You Feel Loved, and slowly gets darker and darker until it ends with a funeral on Wake Up Dead Man. The critics tore it apart and the PopMart tour struggled to fill stadiums in America. It seemed like the band was finally on a downward trajectory, but U2 always does their best work when their back is against a wall. Many U2 fans have come to love October, but the band knew it wasn't their best work and they were determined to rise to the next level with their third album. Putting aside the spiritual matters of October, they wrote a strong collection of songs centered around the horrific political troubles in IrelandRelated to U2 - October
