Trumpets and Drums were Bogusław "Bodek" Pezda & Daniel Kleczynski (formerly in No Smoking (2) - on vocals and guitars). The former left the band after releasing this album to join another band: Agressiva 69.
"Buy And Die!" - their debut and the only work made as a duo was released by Agencja Artystyczna START (which in Polish means "Artist Agency START") formed by Sławek Starosta from Balkan Electrique. The agency was short lived, and released not more than 3 titles (probably only two), but as Kleczynski & Pezda were huge Front 242 fans, they gave their album catalogue number 242 - hence Start 242 on the cover.
This plus the fact that the second main inspiration for T&D was Laibach (very obvious in tracks like "What God Said To Me", "Let Me Kneel In Front Of You", "90's", "Gutter") doesn't make them simply a mix of Belgian and Slovenian best. Laibach's totalitarian bombasticality has found here quite different setting. Same about Front's martial hypnotism.
Calling them Laibach 242 would be really unfair as there's enough unique elements in their sound: easy but well composed melodies, sampled trumpets, moody synth pads, use of reverbs, original, "nervous" drum tracks, clean & somehow overall light sound/production, very good, overly cynical lyrics - in the vein of Cabaret Voltaire and Laibach, but more vivid. Kleczyński's vocals are pretty neat too - digitally processed in some tracks, sounds similar to Milan Fras'... few tones lower...
Nowadays it may sound too simplistic, or orthodox but I still enjoy the cd, as simplicity sometimes makes wonders - remember Nitzer Ebb's "That Total Age", Siekiera's "Nowa Alexandria", Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft or last but... the Ramones?
That's good, oldschool EBM-industrial, a bit sparse production doesn't make it sound really outdated today.
