So I decided to run a limited press on 12 as the promo, as I wanted to make sure there was a loud press available for the DJs and the quality of sound was obviously going to be better on 12. 2000 were pressed in total. Top Buzz are a British DJ, MC team, which performed at rave events in the 1990s. Top Buzz was originally formed in 1988 by MC Patrick McPhee Mad P and DJ Mikee B, playing at house events, before being joined by DJ Jason Kyriakides Jason Jay, Jason Kaye several years later. All originate from the Tottenham area of north London. They were of the first to popularise the darker sounds of jungle techno as it began to emerge from the hardcore rave sounds from 1992 indeed allegedly claiming to have first coined the term. Rmx 93 (Instrumental) WAS THE ONE. Outstanding rhythm . Many say was a tune that developed Drum and Bass. I am not so sure about that imo. To this day this track has an isolated sound like no other, It certainly led the dancefloor in those days and still to this day nothing comes close

Maintain Her is a superb tune, as Phil Wells says, it got pretty much ignored, not by me though, it's a really good track..Dj Ratty played this in an Oldskool Set at a Fusion event in 1995.

It could be argued that this record was a blueprint for the Drum n Bass sound that emerged from the UK Rave scene. What a lot of people don't realise is the original track played by Top Buzz was made in 1991 when it was thier exclusive. The track was sought after by most DJs and only Groove and Fabio had a plate. As the track grew into an anthem it needed a fresh update and as Jason and Pat were promoting Basement Records other releases, I suggested the guys work with Jack Smooth at Basement Records, it was a marriage made in heaven and the rest as they say is history.Due to the original release being such a massive hit, a remix was always on the cards. The mixes don't move that far from the original, but it was great to get Pats vocals recorded on a version, as when ever the guys performed together the crowd would sing the words back to Pat.For me the highlight of this release is the wonderful dynamic ' Maintain her'.The studio had moved from Rons flat at the time, 14b Uxbridge Road, to a new building just up the road, which housed the Studio upstairs and my Distribution Company 'Vinyl Distribution' downstairs. As the track was being made I could hear snippets coming from the Studio which made it difficult to concentrate on my work. I can still remember listening to it when they finished and telling the guys what a hit they had on their hands. However even though the remixes of 'Livin'in Darkness' got a lot of plays, 'Maintain Her' got pretty much ignored. It's easy to understand why now as you can hear this is a very early DnB tune and the average raver wasn't ready yet.For me and history an inspired piece of music from the guysBasement Phil
