Everything in the album feels one note, but the sound is so satisfyingly brought to life and killed right in front of you that you just can't stop listening. Ultima II Massage is his first album for new label Ghostly International and it's probably his best so far. It's got everything one has come to expect in a Tobacco project - the trademark woozily overloaded synths, his heavily treated vocals, the totally warped melodies - only this time they are all turned up to ten. Or at least nine. There's not a weak song in the bunch, with hooks sharper than knives and the tightly wound and perfectly layered sound making it all go down smoothly. Tobacco - Ultima II Massage review: The most fluid Tobacco yet, albeit less dynamic and trending towards sell out. Ultima II Massage drifts slowly towards cohesion. The album seems to flow together more as one continuous piece of Tobacco-style music. In doing this, though, Tobacco seems to sacrifice some of the extreme spontaneity and ingenuity that made earlier releases so powerful. The album relies much more on Fec's vocoder usage, and the general inaudibility and cheap quality of the lyrics makes an album feel childish that otherwise would not
