Throbbing Gristle were an English music and visual arts group formed in 1975 in Kingston upon Hull by Genesis P-Orridge, Cosey Fanni Tutti, Peter Christopherson, and Chris Carter. They are widely regarded as pioneers of industrial music. Evolving from the experimental performance art group COUM Transmissions, Throbbing Gristle made their public debut in October 1976 on COUM exhibition Prostitution, and released their debut single UnitedZyklon B Zombie and debut album The Second Annual Report the. Assume Power Focus compiles early Throbbing Gristle recordings, most of which date back to 1975. The beat- and vocal-driven approach of A Debris of a Murder sets the stage for a collection that's a bit less demanding than their definitive later sound, but it's still sure to harsh any nearby mellows.
