Short intro
Thomas Brinkmann. A Certain Degree of Stasis. Frozen Reeds. With A 1000 Keys, Brinkmann finally gets his revenge on the instrument. Dedicated to Conlon Nancarrow, the modernist composer who wrote extensively for the player piano, it is an ornery, brutish album that hammers like a migraine, which is the sole aspect of the piano that he emphasizes. To underscore that point, the album opens with three minutes of what sounds like mechanized blast beats. There are no melodies here, just a steady, MIDI-driven pummel of chord clusters: Imagine a set of pistons suspended over the keys, striking over and over until the ivory cracks and the ebony splinters. Thomas Brinkmann born 1959 is a German producer of experimental minimal techno music. He began experimenting with records in the early eighties and released re-workings of material by fellow artists Mike Ink and Richie Hawtin in the second half of the 1990s. These productions were made by playing physically modified vinyl records on highly customized turntables with an additional tone arm. Release group by Thomas Brinkmann. 2 CD. Thomas Brinkmann - A 1000 Keys In the liner notes for A 1000 Keys, Thomas Brinkmann includes a dedication to Conlon Nancarrow, but he really didn't need to. The influence of the pioneering 20th century composer, whose most famous works were performed on automated player piano because they were too complex for humans, is clear throughout the album's 18 tracks. Brinkmann's double-disc album, A Certain Degree Of Stasis, and a 1974 Eastman recording are both due out in September. Thu, 14 Jul 2016.
