Mainly recorded between June and August 1967 at Abbey Road and and Oracle is the second studio album by English rock band the Zombies. It was originally released in the UK in April 1968 by CBS Records. The album was recorded over a period of three months between June and August 1967. The sessions took place at Abbey Road Studios and Olympic Studios in London. It was received indifferently on release. Its psychedelic, rock and pop themes allowed the album to be held as one of the most influential albums of the 60s, as well as one of the best from that era, considering the entries on multiple best of all time lists such as Rolling Stone. Four singles were released from Odessey and Oracle: Friends of Mine, Care of Cell 44, Time of the Season and Butchers Tale Western Front 1914. Odessey and Oracle was one of the flukiest and best albums of the 1960s, and one of the most enduring long players to come out of the entire British psychedelic boom, mixing trippy melodies, ornate choruses, and lush Mellotron sounds with a solid hard rock base. If not for Odessey and Oracle the Zombies would be remembered as a minor band from the second wave of the British Invasion in the fall of 1964 which also brought in the Animals and the Kinks. They had a great sound, with Colin Blunstones foggy vocals and Rod Argents organ that had a jazz influence unlike any other Invasion band. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, Odessey & Oracle may have been received indifferently on its release and a commercial flop, but it has since gained the status of a classic, regularly making it onto the Best Albums of All Time lists and regarded as one of the records that helped expand the ambit of what could be achieved with a long-playing record in terms of daring arrangements and sectional song was a psych-pop masterpiece, intricately arranged and woozy with melodic invention.
